The IBM TotalStorage FAStT family of storage products is designed to offer a set of building blocks for implementing or expanding Fiber Channel (FC)-based SANs. FAStT Storage Servers are designed to be easy to install and manage, using the FAStT Storage Manager that is included with every FAStT Storage Server. FAStT products offer a choice of performance and price points to best address customer SAN needs. Multiple FAStT Storage Servers can be centrally managed from a common FAStT management console from virtually anywhere on existing LAN infrastructure. Advanced copy service functions, such as FlashCopy, VolumeCopy and Remote Mirror, can help address data management, data protection, and disaster recovery needs. Volume Copy is designed to provide the ability to create a full volume copy of a point-in-time logical drive generated by FlashCopy on a single FAStT Storage Server. The source logical drive for VolumeCopy would be a FlashCopy logical drive. The target can be any standard logical drive defined with a size equal to or greater than the original source. The source logical drive must be suspended from write operations while the VolumeCopy operation is in process to maintain the integrity of the copied data. The primary benefit of VolumeCopy is to create a full copy of a logical drive after a point-in-time FlashCopy is preformed. This can help facilitate recovery operations. VolumeCopy is FAStT controller based and requires no host cycles.
