AirDock makes it possible for users of infrared-equipped PowerBooks to beam to a desktop Macintosh to transfer files, print and access the network using the built-in infrared (IR) window on the PowerBook. The ADB-powered AirDock adapter plugs into a free serial port on the desktop Macintosh. Just aim the PowerBook at the AirDock adapter, and it's connected. Avoid the security concerns of other wireless technologies with a directed infrared beam keeps that the wireless connection to a line-of-sight boundary and a range of six feet (1.8 meters). There's no software or hardware to add to the infrared-equipped PowerBook. Networking with the PowerBook's IR port frees the single serial port for other uses, such as wireless e-mail and other external modems. And, because it uses AppleTalk, all network applications will work without modification. Set up the PowerBook to log into e-mail and scheduling programs, synchronize files, print documents, even log into databases or mount additional devices--all automatically, when the PowerBook is turned on within range of the AirDock. That's what makes AirDock the perfect quick connection for a busy PowerBook owner.
