QuarkXPress is the world's premier electronic publishing software. It provides all the tools required to create, design, and deliver high-impact publications in both print and electronic media. QuarkXPress includes a wealth of new design and productivity features that let you produce professional document layouts - for print, web, and other media - more efficiently than ever before. The new Tables feature in QuarkXPress 5.0 lets you do a lot more than just present structured data in a grid of columns and rows. In addition to easily resizing individual columns and rows by clicking-and-dragging, each cell within a table can be defined as either a text cell or a picture cell. In this way, the Tables feature becomes a design tool letting you create structured, consistent design elements. Table cells can be quickly and easily split or merged, and you can apply colors, stylized backgrounds, or predefined text styles to individual cells or to the entire table. Layers let you separate various design and textual elements within your document. They give you a tremendous amount of control and flexibility over your document design and output options. For example, you could put all your graphics on one layer and all your text on another. Or you could create a single multi-language document, placing the different languages on separate layers; when you output, you would simply "hide" the layers that you don't want to print. With version 5.0, QuarkXPress brings the world's leading design environment to the Web. QuarkXPress lets you design Web pages and entire Web sites using the same palettes and tools you use to design for print. And because QuarkXPress-designed Web pages conform to open standards, they can be opened and edited in standards-based HTML development tools such as Dreamweaver. QuarkXPress 5.0 lets you easily incorporate Web-specific features such as dropdown lists, rollovers, hyperlinks, image maps, and meta tags into your Web-page designs. The XML export features in QuarkXPress 5.0 open the door to true media-independent publishing. The export features let you extract content from QuarkXPress documents and store that content as XML, so you can publish all or parts of your library of existing QuarkXPress documents on the Internet or in other formats. XML export extracts content based on the formatting styles used in the existing documents, converting each content element tagged with a specific style in QuarkXPress to a corresponding XML element type. The XML export features give publishers unprecedented flexibility in their output options; now you can publish in print, on the Internet, in eBooks, or to a wireless device the moment your copy is finalized. QuarkXPress Passport Edition is a complete, fully functioning version of QuarkXPress that includes additional features for multi-language publishing. QuarkXPress Passport uses the renowned Unternehmensberatung Dieckmann DIHYPH and DITECT software to hyphenate and check spelling in some languages. With a click of the mouse, you can display the user interface in any of the languages supported by QuarkXPress Passport.
