The CellPipe 50A is an ATM-over-ADSL router/bridge that utilizes the existing single pair copper to combine data, voice, and video traffic over an ADSL line at speeds up to 8Mbps. This next-generation ADSL Transceiver Unit-Remote (ATU-R) router offers telecommuters and small offices/home offices (SOHO) the speed and power of ADSL-DMT technology. It accelerates applications such as Internet and intranet access, Web-based research, videoconferencing, network gaming, multimedia, Web hosting, and more. Based on the award-winning Pipeline technology, this full-featured, cell-based router delivers all of the features and functionality necessary for making high-quality, high-speed, and high-band-width remote network connections. The CellPipe 50A unit features an ANSI T1.413-compliant DMT interface allowing high-speed connections over a single twisted pair and up to eight Virtual Circuits (VCs). It offers high-speed asymmetrical data rates of up to 8Mbps downstream and 640Kbps on the upstream. Users can connect to as many as eight different locations simultaneously to send files, browse the Web, upload graphics, or to simply read email. And because the CellPipe 50A is fully compatible with external POTS splitters, voice can be carried over the same ADSL line used for video, audio, and data, saving additional equipment and installation costs. Support for PPP and ATM protocols in the CellPipe 50A router ensures greater flexibility and investment protection for carriers as well as sub-scribers. These protocols make it possible for a service provider to assign user addresses and network parameters almost automatically. Routing or bridging modes include RIP, RIP2, static routes 8 VCs per port RFC 1483 ILC encapsulation VC multiplexing. Concurrent routing and bridging eliminates the need for two separate devices by providing one configurable solution for accessing any LAN and the Internet IP and IPX routing. The unit uses PPP over ATM over ADSL (RFC2364) BCP standard multiprotocol bridging. Plug-and-play enables a CellPipe to obtain its configuration through any router or bridge that can terminate a VC or PPP connection residing on an ISPs network by using Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP).
