A digital camera might seem like a luxury for a school, but its usefulness is undeniable, providing you with the ability to move imagery to a Web site or liven up a text-heavy school brochure or newsletter, without having to incur processing costs. The Epson PhotoPC 600 provides a reasonable compromise between features and image quality. Its maximum resolution is 1024x768 and the supplied memory is 4Mb, although this only allows for eight images to be stored at the highest-quality setting. If this isn't sufficient, the camera offers two additional quality settings, the lowest of which has a 640x480 resolution and will allow 56 images to be stored. The camera is fully automatic with a fixed focus lens and automatic exposure with no manual override. As such, you can reasonably expect that you will receive an acceptable, if not particularly exciting, picture. In terms of conventional photographic facilities, there are a few features that you might not expect on a camera at this price. These are panorama, multiframe and zoom modes. The Panorama mode simply alters the aspect ratio of the image by blanking off the top and bottom.
