The APM 4200 modules are based on Intel Pentium III gigahertz and higher processors and run the standard Linux operating system. Applications run on up to ten APM 4200s. Any security software written for the Linux/Intel architecture can be easily installed with binary compatibility on the APM 4200 modules. Enabling optimal application processing, APM modules provide computing acceleration, performance and status monitoring, as well as standard and application-specific logging. The APMs work in conjunction with the NPM and CPM flow classification and distribution functions to assure security application availability and performance. APM 4200 modules provide a broad range of configuration options, including single or dual processors, cryptographic acceleration, local hard drive and up to 4GB of RAM. Multiple APM 4200s in the X40S system can operate individually or be combined to operate as a single high performance virtual group to run a security application. This, together with load optimization features such as automatic load balancing and failure re-routing, assures high performance and availability of the application. Performance is increased with the addition of each APM: two APMs produce twice the application performance provided by a single APM, and so on. APM 4200s are available with an optional Accelerator Crypto Engine (ACE) daughter card, an acceleration board for speeding the encryption and decryption of ISPEC and SSL traffic. The ACE card snaps onto an APM using a standard PMC connector, and can be installed on one, several or all APMs in an X40S. An ACE-enhanced APM can deliver up to 280 Mbps of VPN traffic, making it the fastest solution for deploying the Check Point Software Technologies VPN - 1 application. When deployed across all ten APMs, the X40S can deliver up to 2.8Gbps of VPN traffic. The ACE card is especially useful for network architects building site-to-site VPNs for branch offices connected via high-speed metropolitan fiber links. The card also helps prevent throughput blockages for companies building interior VPNs - inter-departmental VPNs running over Ethernet (FE or Gigabit) Local Area Networks - as opposed to the more traditional WAN VPN architectures. APM-4200s can also be ordered with an IDE-based hard drive, providing 20 GB of local storage for applications such as anti-virus and IDS that require temporary storage space. Each APM-4200 module supports either an ACE card or an IDE-based hard drive.Product Description | Crossbeam Application Processing Module 4200 - control processor | Device Type | Control processor | Enclosure Type | Plug-in module | Dimensions (WxDxH) | 3.2 cm x 40.6 cm x 43.2 cm | Weight | 1.6 kg | Processor | 1 x Intel Pentium III 1.26 GHz | RAM Installed ( Max ) | 256 MB ( 4 GB ) |
