This external storage system delivers enhanced availability and serviceability features and improves storage density. Units can provide up to 72.8 GB of hot-pluggable SCSI disk storage. A new smaller enclosure size allows up to 25% more storage in rack configurations. This model distributes two independent SCSI Busses supporting up to twelve 1" high or eight 1.6" high hot-pluggable Wide-Ultra SCSI, Fast-Wide SCSI-2 or Fast- SCSI-2 hard drives. (installed drives are split across two SCSI busses). Hot Pluggable technology is used for drives, power supplies and fans. Hot Pluggable components can be replaced without powering down the storage system. This feature significantly enhances storage system availability. Storage system units include hot-pluggable, redundant cooling fans and support for an optional redundant, hot-pluggable power supply. SCSI ID is automatically set when a drive is inserted based on the bay location. Front panel LED's indicate drive activity, whether a drive requires service, and whether power is on or off, giving a quick visual assessment of overall system storage status. LED status and fault indicators for the fans and each power supply are located in the back of the unit. The rack-mountable ProLiant Storage System /F has a 4U height, providing 25% greater storage density than the 5U high ProLiant Storage System. Internal duplexing allows two controllers to access a single ProLiant Storage System/F2 model. Dynamic sector repairing scans hard drives and automatically remaps and bad sectors detected (requires the Compaq SMART SCSI or SMART-2 Array Controller). Numerous drive fault-prevention features are supported when used with the SMART SCSI or SMART-2 Controller and Compaq Insight Manager (v3.20 or higher) including: Storage Parameter Tracking: SMART SCSI or SMART-2 Controller and Compaq Insight Manager predict drive failures and allow Pre-Failure replacement, notify administrator of a drive failure, and gather information that can be used to manage disk subsystem. Thermal Tracking: Monitors internal temperature and fan status; alerts administrator when a factory preset warning temperature is exceeded or a fan ceases to operate. Recovery server option maximizes system uptime for Windows NT and NetWare environments by allowing one ProLiant server to act as an automatic standby for another. It is fully tested on a variety of Compaq products including ProSignia and ProLiant servers.
