This no-compromise expansion base has two full-size PCI/ISA slots, two half-height/modular drive bays, PC Card slots, motorized plug and play docking in Windows 95 and robust hardware security. It provides the functionality of a desktop with the added modularity of removable MultiBay devices. It is compatible with Compaq Armada 7300 and Armada 7700 Families; also supports Compaq LTE 5000 MultiBay storage devices via optional LTE 5000 Half-height MultiBay Adapter. The system supports extensive expansion capabilities with two full-length PCI/ISA slots, two half-height drive bays, two CardBus slots, and upgradeable Ethernet. In addition, MultiBay design allows for true system customization with hard drives, CD-ROM drive, or diskette drives. MultiBay devices are easily installed and removed, and are interchangeable between expansion base and notebook Motorized hot docking and undocking with plug and play in Windows 95 saves time and deters data loss. Two full-length slots are provided supporting industry-standard 16-Bit ISA and 32-bit PCI boards. Two half-height drive bays support industry-standard devices such as CD-ROM Drives, LS-120 Drive, tape drives or other industry-standard half-height devices. One half-height bay is converted into a MultiBay with the Armada 7000 Half-Height MultiBay Adapter. The other half-height bay may also be converted to a MultiBay. With both half-height drive bays converted to MultiBays, up to 11.1 GB of storage is possible between the notebook and the expansion base (using four hard drives). It includes integrated 10Mb/s Ethernet controller for easy network connection (RJ-45); upgradeable to 100 Mb/s with the optional 100BaseTX Ethernet Upgrade; same network drivers as used in other Compaq products. An integrated modem in Armada 7700 is passed through the back of the expansion base via an RJ-11 port, allowing instant access to the notebook-integrated modem-no cables to deal with. The ArmadaStation is packed with comprehensive hardware security features. Once docked, the notebook and every component can be locked down to the expansion base with a simple turn of a key. None of the notebook modules-hard drive, memory, battery, or MultiBay devices-can be removed. In addition, the half-height bays, PCI/ISA slots and the PC Card slots are also secured. To further enhance security, a steel U-bolt is installed in the back of the Expansion Base, so that the entire system can be locked down to a workstation with a cable or chain. A cable lock provision is also provided. An industry-first tower stand option for the ArmadaStation provides space-savings by allowing operation of the expansion base and notebook in vertical position on the floor. Motorized docking is still supported in this position. Batteries are easily charged in the MultiBay. Using the optional Armada 7000 Half-height MultiBay Adapter, up to four batteries can be charged sequentially between the notebook and base.
